The suffix “ship” conveys a noun, accentuating states or conditions, with a particular focus on those related to a state. Among these, words describing a state hold profound significance. Leading this category is “Friendship.” Friendship traverses turbulent emotional seas, enduring love, hate, disappointment, betrayal, and more, yet remains unwavering. Successful friendships navigate these challenges, while some may falter, altering their course or sailing solo as circumstances shift.

Childhood friendships hold a special place. As we transition from childhood to adolescence, adulthood, and beyond, evolving priorities play a pivotal role in sustaining this “ship.” Upon finding a life partner, they assume the most significant role in maintaining the circle of friendship. My heartfelt gratitude and deepest respect go to all the partners who have cherished, recognized, supported, and fortified this
bond.

Recently, I encountered a friendship of remarkable depth that profoundly touched my heart. Hence, as an admirer, I pen these few lines in its honour.

நகுதட் பொருட்டல்ல
இடுக்கண் களைவதல்ல
உணர்வின் வடிவமென
உணர்த்திய நட்பது !

வெயிலோடு விளையாடி
மழைமிஞ்சா உறவாடி
வாலிபம் வளர்ந்தோடி
தாரம் தரமாய்
தாரைவார்த்த ,

திகட்டா தித் திக்கும்

நட்பதுவே !

இறைவன் முன் தோன்றி
வரமென்ன வேண்டுமென்றால்
பொங்கல் பானையென
இந்நட்பாய் ஒன்றென்பேன்
பெருமையாய் மட்டுமின்றி
பொறாமையாய் !
