ஆளுமை

The timeless inquiry persists: are leaders born or made? According to numerous research papers, the consensus leans towards the idea that leaders are made, with approximately 70% of leadership qualities acquired and 30% attributed to genetics.

If we adopt Northouse’s (2007, p.3) definition of “Leader/Leadership” as a guide – defining leadership as “a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals in a new way to achieve a common goal” – let’s temporarily set aside Military and Corporate leaders. Our focus here is on individuals who exhibit leadership qualities in dealing with people.

In my view, a “people leader” is defined by only two qualities:

 1. Selflessness
 2. Self-awareness
These qualities cannot be taught, as they naturally evolve much like instincts. In a sense, the relationship between a leader and leadership parallels that of a parent to parenting. Just as no parent can be explicitly taught to be a parent, the essence of leadership emerges and evolves through inherent instincts.

இலையும் இரண்டு
கள்ளித்தளிராய்
முள்ளாய் குத்துதடா

கையை கொடுத்து 
உதவிய கரத்தில் 
விரல்கள் இல்லையடா 
வள்ளுவன் அவனும்
காவியின் இனமென்று
மானமும் போகுதடா

மொழியின் ஒளியும்
மெழுகின் இனமென
பிரித்தே பார்த்தானடா
திரையின் வேங்கையும்
வெற்றிடம் நிறப்பிட
மாற்றத்தில் நின்றானடா

வாரிசு வாரிசாய்
செங்கோல் பிடிக்கும்
கைகள் தளருமடா
ஆட்சியின் அடிமட்டம்
மருத்துவம் போன்றொரு
படிப்பென்று ஆகுமடா
இல்லறம் திறப்போர்
மட்டும் இதற்கென 
மக்கள் உணர்வாரடா
கிம்பளமில்லா சம்பளம் வாங்கும்
வாழ்க்கையும் தொடங்குமடா
செங்கோல் வென்றிட
கல்வித்தந்தையாய்
உயிர்த்தெழ வேண்டுமடா
ஆங்கோர் ஏழையின்
ஏழ்மையும் நீங்கிட
பூமியும் மலருமடா

மாண்டு மீண்டும்
பிறக்கும் முன்னே
கனவிது பலிக்குமடா

விழியின் குருதியில்
