Deepavali

The most cherished festival of my childhood, and I believe for many others as well, was Deepavali. A few years ago, this blog featured a post revisiting a plethora of nostalgic moments and activities from our “school day” Deepavali celebrations. Although the age-old traditions of preparing for Deepavali, such as eagerly anticipating the tailor-made Deepavali day dress a month in advance, commencing the day with a luxurious full-body oil bath, relishing a grand non-vegetarian breakfast and lunch, and engaging in day-long fireworks on the streets, have transformed over time through the process of ‘evolution.’ Nowadays, these celebrations may include special shows, uninterrupted TV time, and the like. However, the essence of fun persists in one form or another. As I often reflect, “time, in its progression through generations, knows how to fill and satisfy the gaps.”

  1. A true dedication to the old customs which has changed over period of time and as you rightly pointed out, it now exists with new dresses and watching TV shows….

Of course the home made sweets are replaced with sweets from A2B, Sri Krishna etc.,.

    A good Kavitha….👏👏👏
