I’ve long considered tears to be a unique and special aspect of the human body, representing the outcome of various emotions. Interestingly, animals share this phenomenon. Tears serve as the body’s release valve for a spectrum of emotions, including stress, happiness, sadness, grief, anxiety, frustration, dejection, and many more. The inspiration for the script ‘கண்ணீர்’ struck me while exploring the health benefits of laughter. Coincidentally, I stumbled upon an article by Dr. Judith that delved into the health benefits of tears. The complete article by Dr. Judith can be accessed at

மழைபார்த்து வருடம் பல ஆனாலும்
நீர் நிலைகள் தரை பெயர்ந்து திறந்தாலும்
அன்னிய மானிலம் மாட்டேன் என 
மறுத்தாலும்
நெஞ்சில் விழுந்த ஓர் இடியில் 
பேதமின்றி
மகிழ்ச்சியிலும், துக்கத்திலும் 
சுரக்கும் நீர் - கண்ணீர்

அத்துளிகளின் கனம்
சொட்டில் பலம்,
தாரையில் தரம்
அதை அடக்கும் தருணங்களில்
தோற்றிருக்கிறேன்
எனக்கென கரித்த உப்பு
பிறர்க்கெனும்போது இனித்தது - நெஞ்சும்  தளர்ந்தது.

Despite the year being 2016, the society I belong to still discourages women from pursuing and thriving in their careers after marriage. I observed two distinct categories during the period between 2012 and 2014 when I was residing in Coimbatore. Many families had exceptionally talented daughters who excelled in both their studies and passions. Paradoxically, the parents were more inclined to prioritize getting them married off, seemingly prioritizing parental rituals over their daughters’ aspirations.The second category comprises women who had made a significant impact before marriage. However, post-marriage, they find themselves assuming a completely different role due to family and social responsibilities that they believe they own. As a result, they often deviate from their career paths. The script “இவள்” is a tribute to all married women who, in the classic Indian term, are “Settled” on paper but, in reality, feel “Unsettled” by nature.

இவள் 
தெளிவாகச்சிந்திக்கிறாள்
பக்குவமாய்ப்படிக்கிறாள்
மதிப்பெண்களைக்குவிக்கிறாள்
கல்லூரியில் மலர்கிறாள்
நிறுவனங்களில் செழிக்கிறாள்!

ஏனோ
திருமணமென்ற கால்கட்டில்
தாயென்ற மகுடத்தில்
உறைந்தே நிற்கிறாள் - தீப்பெட்டிக்குள் தீக்குச்சியாய்!

கால்கட்டால் முற்றுப்புள்ளி 
அது அன்றைய சமூகம்
சுதந்திரம் - நீங்கள் தாரைவார்தது 
விடுதலை வேண்டாதீர்
பாரதியின் புதுமைப்பெண்ணே
கல்வி கண்திறக்கட்டும் - தீப்பந்தமாய் வழிகாட்டுங்கள்
அவன் இனி குடும்ப ஆணாகட்டும்

The demonetization of 1000 Rupee and 500 Rupee notes on November 8, 2016, by the Prime Minister served as the inspiration for the script ‘நாணயம்’. Given that cash transactions play a pivotal role in trade across all scales in India, reducing them was aimed at minimizing money laundering. However, the effectiveness of this measure relies on individuals taking a wholehearted stand to ensure that every transaction is legal, involving the payment of taxes on income.

பெற்றோராம் நாம் இருவர்
ஒற்றை தாளில்
பலரின் புன்னகை

வேர்வை சிந்தி இங்கும்
குளிர் உரைந்து அங்கும்
நம்மை குவிக்க ஓடுகிறான் -இந்தியன்

கருப்பாம் நாம் 
பலர் பைகளில்
உலகநாயகன் மஸ்தானால்
ஓரே இரவில்
செல்லா காசானோம்

நம்மை நம்பிய
சடங்கு முடங்க
உயிர் ஊசலாட
விட்டிருக்க வேண்டாமே

பெட்டி பெட்டியாய்
அடுக்கிய நம்மை

சுருக்கு பையில்
திணித்த நாமும்
அஞ்சரை பெட்டியில்

மூச்சு முட்ட முழிக்கிறோம்

நம்மை விட பலசாலியாம்
நாளை அவன் நடந்தாலும்
கைக்காசே நம் புழக்கமெனில்
விரைவில் கருப்பாவான் - அவன்

ஓரே பூஜியத்தில் நான் உயர்ந்தாலும் 
பத்து பெட்டியில் அடங்குவோம் நாம்
ஐந்தே  பெட்டியில் அடங்குவான் அவன்

நாவில் இருந்திருந்தால் - நாணயம் 
நாமும் வாழ்ந்திருப்போமே
என்றதாம் ஆயிரம் , ஐநூரை பார்த்து!

Witnessing my fellow community toil in the field of IT, not only in India but also in other developed nations, left me perplexed. This contemplation led to the creation of the script ‘Cyber Coolie.’ I crafted this piece for my cousin in celebration of his achievement in winning the ‘Best Employee Award.’ The note and the poem I composed for him are shared below, as posted on his Facebook page.

“As your elder brother, I extend my heartfelt congratulations first. It’s a tremendous achievement. On the other hand, I do harbor concerns about your ‘work-life balance.’ Drawing from my 16-year experience in the UK, I believe there’s a marked difference between ‘working to live’ and ‘living to work.’ I hope that someday you will shift gears and find that equilibrium. The poem below, from my blog, is dedicated to you. It includes an audio file in case reading proves challenging. Once again, congratulations, and aim for more awards in the 8 hours of your working day. Keep up the good work, buddy.”

The script ‘எழுவோம்’ is inspired by the diverse perspectives people hold towards ‘Failure’. Acknowledging that failure is an inherent part of life, its interpretation varies based on one’s viewpoint. While there are numerous ways to learn ‘how to do,’ failure stands out as the unique instructor teaching ‘how NOT to do.’ Experiencing failure after giving our best effort is more rewarding than not trying at all or facing defeat against a weaker opponent. Adopting the mindset of ‘I have nothing to lose’ allows us to learn from mistakes. Let’s rise, start anew with determination, and one day witness the same failure fade away forever.
